Who are the Premier League’s top earners in 2020-21?

The English Premier League is often cited as best-paying football league in the world. Every season it seems that the Premier League gains a new highest earner. This year is no different as a new name tops the Premier League’s highest earners list. Here is a look at the best-paid players in the English top-flight.

1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signed a new three-year deal in September, making him the league’s best-paid player. Unfortunately, he has not lived up to the new salary. Aubameyang is paid a whopping £375,000 per week.

2. David De Gea

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea continues to come under fire for his performances at Old Trafford. Unfortunately, the club signed him to a big-money contract, preventing them from replacing him with someone else. De Gea earns around £375,000 per week, making him one of the Premier League’s highest earners.

3. Mesut Ozil

Arsenal are paying Mesut Ozil around £350,000 per week at the Emirates this season. He is not in Mikel Arteta’s plans showing the club are willing to pay a lot of money for Ozil not to even dress for games. Theoretically, the club will get better value out of Aubemeyang. However, it cannot be ignored that two players on the underperforming Gunners earn a combined £725,000 per week.

4. Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne comes fourth on the list of Premier League highest earners in 2020-21. The midfielder pulls down £330,000 a week. Reports indicate the club want to re-sign De Bruyne to a new contract which would potentially increase his earnings.

5. Kai Havertz

So far, it hasn’t happened for Chelsea summer signing Kai Havertz in west London. The forward joined the club in August 2020 but hasn’t set the league on fire. The German earns £310,000 a week a Chelsea. It is a large sum and one that the club may have regreets over currently.
