Is your football injury more serious than suspected?

When it comes to a football injury, players want to get back on the pitch as soon as possible. However, in some cases, a football injury can be more serious than originally thought. If an injury is more serious, it can put a football player in danger. You can either suffer a further, more serious injury or a debilitating problem that could force you to quit the sport.

There are some common football injuries that can become extremely serious. Let’s look at three football injuries that could be mistaken for small problems, but are actually bigger worries.

Football injury

Concussions

Concussions are extremely serious football injuries. In the last 10 years, research has show the effects concussions have on players and the brain. A concussion can have both short-term and long-term effects. Players can suffer a concussion from a blow to the head. This can be from heading the ball, getting hit by another player or falling to the ground. Players who believe they have a concussion need to get medical treatment as left untreated, a player’s life can be in danger.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear

An ACL tear occurs when the ligament is stretched further than its limit. Some players have an ACL tear misdiagnosed as a simple sprain. After some rest and rehab, players begin training and playing again. This causes them to damage the ACL further. Most ACL tears result in surgery and rehab. The football injury can keep players out of action for some time.

Metatarsal injuries

David Beckham and Wayne Rooney made the metatarsal injury well-known ahead of the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, respectively. The human body has five metatarsal bones in the forefoot. The bones help the body deal with distribution of weight. However, due to direct contact, for example a tackle, the bones on the outer part of the foot can become broken. The long, thin metatarsal bones in the middle of the foot can break over time due to wear and tear. The injury can cause pain and swelling in the foot. Which can be initially diagnosed as a sprain or contact injury. If you experience this injury, the first thing to do is to stop all football and sports activities.
