Champions League: 3 Iconic moments from top club competition in the world

The Champions League 2018-19 quarterfinals kicked off this week. The return of the No. 1 club football competition has reminded us of some of the most amazing moments in Champions League history.

There have been thousands of great memories in the Champions League, but these 3 iconic moments stick out for a reason.

3. Real Madrid win La Decima

Real Madrid won their 10th Champions League/European Cup in 2014 when they defeated La Liga and city rivals Atletico Madrid.

The 4-1 scoreline massive overshadowed the actual performance of Real Madrid as they were 60 seconds from losing. Atletico scored in the 36th minute and held on until a Sergio Ramos header in the third minute of second-half stoppage time equalised the score.

Gareth Bale tallied the winner in the 110th minute before Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo added goals.

2. Manchester United dramatic late win over Bayern Munich

For 86 minutes, Manchester United trailed Bayern Munich 1-0 in the 1999 Champions League Final. Yet, Sir Alex Ferguson’s team found two goals in the second half to win in a dramatic smash and grab.

Teddy Sheringham scored the leveller in the 91st minute before current club manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer popped up and scored the winner. Despite the way they won it, it has been remembered as one of the greatest moments in Red Devils history.

1. Liverpool come back to beat AC Milan

Manager Rafael Benitez built a career at Liverpool thanks to his team’s second-half comeback against AC Milan in the 2005 final. Had Liverpool not come back to win, Benitez may not have lasted as long at Anfield.

Liverpool were down 3-0 at halftime after at an AC Milan masterclass. Somehow the Reds pulled themselves together to draw level in the second period. After nearly losing in extra-time, Liverpool went to penalties where goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek saved the day.
